To preserve the integrity of our benches, each piece receives a special wax coating on the end grain. This meticulous process stabilizes the drying process, significantly reducing the likelihood of cracking.

Macrocarpa timber is classified by the Forest Research Association of New Zealand as Moderately Durable, boasting an impressive outdoor life expectancy of up to 50 years. This natural durability makes it an ideal choice for outdoor furniture.

We've innovated with our galvanised brackets to minimize ground contact, effectively securing benches to concrete bases. For any direct contact, we apply a preservative and seal it with a wax emulsion, or use treated pine as a protective layer, ensuring longevity and durability.

All necessary hold-down brackets are made for Park Benches Limited and are supplied with the bench.

Our benches boast a natural finish, treated with a water-repellent and mould inhibitor that dries clear, accentuating the timber's golden hue, which gracefully fades to a weathered silver grey over time. This treatment enhances the wood's appearance and accelerates drying after rain.

In the unfortunate event of graffiti, it can easily be removed by sanding the affected area with a large grinder equipped with 120 grit disks, restoring the wood to its original, pristine condition.

At the heart of our design philosophy is our furniture's natural beauty and durability. Therefore, we advise against applying any coatings beyond the initial treatment we provide during manufacture. Additional coatings tend to peel and scratch over time, complicating maintenance and detracting from the timeless elegance of the wood. Our initial treatment is meticulously chosen to protect and enhance the wood's natural charm while ensuring minimal upkeep. Whether a single slab needs replacing or the entire bench requires attention, repairs are hassle-free. Benches can be detached from their hold-down brackets and returned to Park Bench Limited for professional repair.

While we often field requests for furniture made from treated pine, it's important to note a few considerations. Macrocarpa is generally more accessible in the larger sizes we utilize, and while pine can be used, it faces limitations in size and treatment penetration. However, we maintain relationships with foresters for oversized trees and ensure any pine used is pre-machined and treated to exceed standard H4.1 for above-ground use. For certain products like our 400 x 450 Beam Seats, the sheer size requirements make Macrocarpa the only viable option.
